Presidents’ Day is coming up. Here are some fun facts about the men that have been honored to hold the office of President of the United States.

1. John Tyler was the president who had the most children, coming in at fifteen! Can you imagine fifteen children running around?

2. Theodore Roosevelt became president at the youngest age of all the presidents at forty-two years old.

3. The oldest president to be inaugurated is Donald Trump at 70 years old, who replaced Ronald Reagan at 69.

4. The tallest president, Abraham Lincoln measured in at twelve inches taller than James Madison, who holds the place for shortest president at five feet, four inches. Historians say that Madison never weighed over one hundred pounds!

5. President Thomas Jefferson was given two bear cubs from Lewis and Clark. He would keep the bear cubs in a cage on the White House lawn, and walk them on occasion.

6. Ulysses S. Grant was once given a speeding ticket before cars were invented! He was driving his horse and buggy too fast, so an officer pulled him over and gave him a twenty-dollar ticket.

7. America’s first seven presidents were actually British subjects, not American! Martin Van Buren was the first American-born president.

8. James Garfield could write in Greek and Latin at the same time! He wrote in Greek with one hand while writing in Latin with the other. It is also known that Garfield the cat was named after James Garfield’s grandpa.

Other fun facts are that George Washington never actually had wooden teeth, though he did have them made of other material such as ivory and lead, which is not considered quite harmful.
